Primary Phase Music
Our children will become creative and expressive musicians through an approach which engenders a love and appreciation of music. They will develop their understanding of music through exploration of performing, composing and appraising within a multicultural and inclusive curriculum that ensures a progression of skills. Our children will develop musical knowledge, skills and understanding relevant to their age-related stage following a logical and systematic curriculum, interwoven throughout their school experience.
Children will come to comprehend, embrace and collaborate through the universal language of music. They will develop a deep historical understanding and appreciation of music beyond living memory and recognise the evolution and change music has gone through. Children will be able to critically engage with, perform, explore, love and appreciate all aspects of music and feel a sense of accomplishment within their learning. Children will identify and handle a variety of instruments, applying the seven elements of music (duration, pitch, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and structure).
In KS2, children will also be able to voluntary take paid peripatetic lessons in addition to their classroom music lessons. These include violin, piano, guitar, drums, saxophone, clarinet, flute and trombone.
Extracurricular clubs include EYFS/KS1 Music Club, Performing Club (Choir), Music Club (Band) and a Worship Band, all which have multiple performances throughout the year within the school and local community. Several collaborations with the secondary site ensure that the All-Through element of the school remains present.
