Geography curriculum overview

At KS3, we deliver the Geography National Curriculum through a thematic approach that enables students to explore core geographical concepts in depth. Each unit is anchored in a country or geographical region, allowing learners to investigate hydrology, geology, geological time scales, economies, and development through contextualised case studies. Geographical skills—including mapwork, data analysis, fieldwork techniques, and spatial thinking—are explicitly taught and embedded throughout these units, ensuring students develop both knowledge and practical competence. This method fosters a deeper understanding of physical and human processes while cultivating global awareness and critical thinking.

Year 9 is designed as a foundation year in which pupils are given the opportunity to study their chosen humanities option in greater depth, preparing them for GCSE (Edexcel B)-level thinking and analysis. Alongside this, students continue to hone their core humanities skills and knowledge through collaborative, cross-disciplinary projects that reinforce critical thinking, enquiry, and communication. This approach ensures a broad and balanced experience while deepening subject-specific expertise.
