Year 3

English

In Year 3, children at Trinity Primary Phase enjoy whole class reading sessions that help them grow their vocabulary, explore different authors’ voices, and develop a real love of reading. What they learn feeds into their daily writing lessons, where they use rich language, practise key skills, and grow in confidence as young writers. Each of our chosen texts is carefully selected to spark imagination and strengthen reading, speaking, and writing throughout the year.

We develop children's transcriptional and compositional writing abilities throughout Y3 by teaching the skills set out below.

Maths

Trinity follows the White Rose scheme of work. Below, see the overview of Maths learning for Year 3.

Maths lessons look at fluency, word problems and reasoning.

Each lesson follows a 10-minute arithmetic session, followed by the main lesson (from White Rose) and concludes with a challenge to deepen children’s understanding of the topic.

Religious Education

In Year 3, our RE curriculum helps children learn about the Christian faith and other world religions through stories, discussion and reflection. We encourage pupils to think deeply, ask questions, and understand how beliefs shape people’s lives.

In Year 3, children explore Christianity and Hinduism, learning both about religion (what people believe and do) and from religion (what we can learn and apply to our own lives). Our final topic, “Climate Change,” encourages children to reflect on how people of faith respond to global issues and how we can all take responsibility for looking after our world.

Curriculum Overview

Wider Curriculum sessions include History, Geography and Design & Technology. Knowledge and skills are taught via declarative and procedural learning tasks. Trinity has a spiral curriculum that feeds from EYFS to KS2 and through to KS3 and KS4.
